{"id":1,"date":"2008-09-15T15:20:30","date_gmt":"2008-09-15T19:20:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/henryalford.com\/?p=1"},"modified":"2008-10-07T16:51:55","modified_gmt":"2008-10-07T20:51:55","slug":"hello-world","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/henryalford.com\/?p=1","title":{"rendered":"We begin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>About ten years ago I wrote an <a href=\"http:\/\/query.nytimes.com\/gst\/fullpage.html?res=9C06E3DB1F3EF934A15751C1A961958260\" target=\"_blank\">Op Ed<\/a> for the New York Times that made fun of authors&#8217; websites&#8212;all the photos of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.suegrafton.com\/suegrafton\/cats.htm\">Sue Grafton&#8217;s cats<\/a> on her site, the pictures of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.numa.net\/car_collection.html\">Clive Cussler&#8217;s &#8220;renowned and classic car collection&#8221;<\/a> on his, etc.<\/p>\n<p>I asked, &#8220;Shouldn&#8217;t an author&#8217;s website fetishize his words&#8212;say, a letter the writer forged to the school nurse as a tyke, or the addendum he included in his pre-nuptial agreement? Anything that would offer insight into a writer&#8217;s psychology.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>So, to inaugurate this site, I want to make good on my word by offering up a somewhat embarassing bit of marginalia that I scrawled at age 13 on page 347 of a book assigned me by my 8th grade English teacher.
